TSOs launch joint market survey on infrastructure requirements for electricity and hydrogen

The electricity, gas and hydrogen transmission system operators are conducting a joint market survey on infrastructure requirements for electricity and hydrogen from February 3 to March 13, 2026. The survey serves to prepare the scenario frameworks for the 2027 electricity, gas and hydrogen network development plans and is intended to create a reliable, integrated planning basis for the future energy system.

The focus is particularly on power-to-gas plants (> 10 MWel,), hydrogen power plants and hydrogen consumers and storage facilities. In addition, network operators record large battery storage facilities, data centers, power-to-heat plants, and planned load increases at industrial sites (each with a connected load of 10 MWel or more).

Market players are invited to report their requirements via the query platform at https://infrastrukturbedarf-abfrage-nep.de/ by March 13, 2026.

One more note: On February 12, 2026 (10:00-12:00), the network operators are offering a joint public webinar for market participants and distribution system operators. You can register via the following link: https://eventmobi.com/website/marktabfrage

The joint press release is available in the download area.

Criteria for considering capacity requirements

In accordance with the Energy Industry Act, the transmission system operators (TSOs) and regulated operators of hydrogen transport networks are required to draw up the draft scenario framework for the integrated gas and hydrogen network development plan 2027 by June 30, 2026.

TSOs have published criteria for taking into account additional capacity requirements for storage, production, and LNG facilities, as well as power plant and industrial customers. The deadline for inclusion in the draft 2027 scenario framework is March 13, 2026.
